English Ambassador Inkstand, English Silver Plate c.1860

Known as an Ambassador Inkstand .This inkstand was known for this reason as it is substantial and was seen in palaces embassies etc on an important desk to make a statement, made around 1890 with two cut-glass inkwells, each measuring 3.5" across. The center compartment was intended for stamps, and the compartment that runs along the back half probably held seals and wax. The elaborate and heavy hinged handles pivot to lie flat.Made in england of silver plate C.1860
